The Leadership Strategies of Madrasah Principals in Managing the Mu'adalah Curriculum at Salaf Islamic Boarding Schools
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the leadership strategies of the madrasah principal in formulating, implementing, and evaluating the Mu'adalah curriculum at MA Darussalamah, Salaf Darussalam Pondok Pesantren, Sumbersari, Kediri. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed using interview, observation, and documentation methods. The results show that the principal plays a strategic role in curriculum planning by involving teachers, pesantren leaders, and student guardians through participatory discussions. The resulting vision reflects the integration of Salaf values and modern needs. Implementation is carried out through halaqah-based learning methods for classical texts and lectures for general subjects, supported by simple technology use, such as digital Quran applications. Teacher management through coaching and mentoring, and active student participation in halaqah discussions and bahtsul masail activities, are key to successful curriculum implementation. Evaluation is conducted periodically through academic and non-academic assessments, direct monitoring by the principal, and feedback collection from teachers and students. Continuous innovation, including teacher training and collaboration with stakeholders like the Ministry of Religion, supports curriculum quality improvement. This study demonstrates that the applied strategies effectively balance modern educational needs with traditional pesantren values. However, the results are limited to one madrasah and cannot be fully generalized. Further research with broader coverage and deeper exploration of technology use is recommended for more comprehensive insights.
